Vecteur K? What’s this?

In addition of being a way to transfer information or to represent a direction going out of the plan in vectorial algebra, which are the two significations that lead to the band’s name, Vecteur K is an ambiant and intense progressive rock band from Montréal.

Formed of lead singer and guitarist Marc-André Noël, lead guitarist Marc-Antoine Sauvé, keyboard player Jean-François Bernard, bassman Benoît Dalpé and drummer Éric Cournoyer, Vecteur K takes place on the musical scene since 2003. Marc-André, Éric and Benoît are in the adventure since the beginning, while Marc-Antoine joined in 2007, followed by Jean-François in 2008. With explosive compositions and imaging lyrics, they established their own style, without any barrier or limits, between rock and progressive types of music. Since its formation, Vecteur K made good figure in a number of contests and gave an important number of concerts in the Montréal region. Some might remember they received an outstanding and warm welcome in front of about 9000 spectators, at the Bell Center, as the opening band for The Musical Box in december 2006. Since that show, in addition to the many concerts they gave, they prepared the songs that would figure on their very first official album.

This album, called La peur du désert (Fear of the desert), released in May 2009 on Unicorn Digital (UNCR 5068), offers a reflexion on the feeling of emptyness expressed by mankind and the perpetual fight for filling it. A rich and pure sound, french lyrics, and a desire to keep arrangements simple in spite of the complexity of some structures gave a very special and unique touch to the album, which may please both progressive and general rock fans. In that way, Vecteur K offers something unique.

Benoît Dalpé – Bass
Ben is Vecteur K ‘s secret touch! He’s been in the project since 2004 and his talent is an important part of the band’s sound. Benoît’s reputation was made while he was playing in Lost Opus for a couple of years before Vecteur K. He has the energy, he has the attitude and he never compromises quality in his arrangements. A true professional agent!

Éric Cournoyer – Drums

Éric has been a passionate drummer since he could walk... or so. He played with The Guardians for 5 years with Marc-André before joining him to form Vecteur K. He also played in a cover band with M-A and Jean-François for 2 years. You may not know, but Éric is the official Céline’s successor for Charlemagne ambassador!!! He is the band’s heartbeat on stage, even when the beat itself chokes...

Marc-Antoine Sauvé - Guitarist

Marc-Antoine finished his Jazz/Pop guitar study in the beautiful city of Joliette. He's teaching guitars at "Harmonie Son School" in L'Assomption and at the "Centre Musical Artistique de Lanaudière" in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes. His first influences was metal music. He was a member of Monument and As a River. After that, he starts to be interessed by progressive rock, rock, jazz, blues, folk, traditional quebec musics and...the elevator music… He also likes woman with big hollow of the knee and small hard butt!!… but prefered to keep that secret !

Marc-André Noël – Vocals & rhythm guitar

M-A was the singer and bass player of The Guardians and played with Sortie 23 before he decided to form a group of musicians who would share his vision of music. He presents his first solo show in 2003 with Éric and J-F by his side. After the success of this show where the first 3 Vecteur K songs were presented, the group was formed and it became his priority.

Jean-François Bernard - Keyboards
Jean-François took a quite different way compared to the 4 other members. He works for 15 years in musical theater and was musical director of several shows, contest and events. He also was a soundman, studio technician and programmer for recording studios, shows and special events.  Last september 2008, he join Vecteur K, just before the recording of their first album called «La peur du désert».
